Elena Klonsky

This is my comprehensive portfolio from Photo 3/4, with a 10 photo edition from Digital 1/2 as I plan on taking 5/6. My favorite pieces are the toned landscapes and my polaroid emulsion. I think the strongest piece is the black and white digital landscape of Zion National Park.

Nils Erik Larson
- Nils Erik Larson is a Swedish photographer who typically shoots in black and white. His self described style is "having a knack for being in the right place at the right time"

Maciej Dakowicz
Polish Photographer Dakowicz claims to have run out of pages on his passport. He is a world traveler who shoots digitally in color. Maciej has abandoned a career in engineering to pursue photography.  He is currently based in Mumbai.

Jesse Marlow
Jesse Marlow is a Melbourne based street photographer, who belongs to a collective of 21 photographers known as in Public.

Write out what your definition of beauty is as it relates to the natural world.  Find an image that exemplifies your definition.

- For me, beauty in relating to the natural world is the experience of feeling peace and viewing the purity of an untouched landscape, separate from human intervention. It also is when you experience the scale ofthe natural world, like the feeling you get when you realize you can't see the other side of the ocean.


Think about a time that you experienced that beauty in nature.  Write what your experience was.

Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) is one of the most accomplished and original figures in the history of photography. His work in the 1930s aided defining the creative potential of modern photography. His ability to capture life "on the run",MoMa)
or candidly, was known as "the decisive moment", also the title of his first major book. He and others founded the Magnum photo agency, which enabled photojournalists to work with magazines such as Life while retaining control over their work. Cartier-Bresson produced large series of reportage of unrest in China, the Soviet Union, the United States, Europe, India, and Indonesia. His photos often depicted people, and was considered one of the greatest portraitists of the twentieths century. (Source:


This is an example of the candid portraiture that Cartier-Bresson was known for.

Alfred Stieglitz was born in Hoboken, New Jersey and educated as an engineer in Germany. Stieglitz returned to New york in 1890 to prove that photography was a medium as capable of artistic expression as painting or sculpture. He was known for his conviction about the aesthetic potential of the medium and published multiple essays on this topic.  After World War I, Stieglitz catalysed the transition to modern art and his photos were no longer as heavily manipulated. His series of portraits Georgia O'Keeffe was well received and is very well known, and encapsulates several modernist ideas about the sense of self, a changing personality, and the relativity of truth in a modern world.
